Mother and Daughter
Oil on canvas
80 cm x 60 cm x 4 cm
This piece is about showing that bond between mother and daughter but also displaying a variety of textures with oil paints. Some areas are very blended to give great detail whilst others are left with its first layer of paint. The mother is completely textured in an impasto style application of paint. The daughter's hair has many shades of black in a camo pattern with cracked effects within the paint. There are also scratched/scraped marks in the background of the painting.
This painting was definitely about exploring different techniques and letting go the control of wanting an overly completed painting. Sometimes leaving areas the way there are is the best decision.
